It’s no surprise that Bath is a popular destination for a weekend break, as this historic city is bursting with culture and atmosphere. Small enough to explore on foot, Bath’s cobbled streets are full of hidden delights whether you are a history buff, art aficionado, shopaholic or a food and drink connoisseur. Here are our favourite must-dos in Bath this winter.

Christmas market
The Christmas market comes to Bath for 3 weeks at the end of November, with over 170 stalls selling handcrafted gifts from independent businesses. The ideal place for a Christmas shopping trip, you can get some wonderfully unique gifts for friends and family- and a little something for yourself of course!

Afternoon tea
Bath is home to a huge selection of cafes and tearooms which are perfect for a spot of afternoon tea to help you refuel after a stroll around the shops. For the ultimate Bath experience, head to Sally Lunn’s to sample some of their famous Bath Buns.  This historic building dates back to 1482, making it one of the oldest houses in Bath.

Boutique Hotel Stay
After a long day exploring the city, where better to rest your head than the new boutique townhouse hotel No.15 Great Pulteney? Optimally located in the centre of Bath this is a perfect destination to add a touch of luxury to your stay. Choose from suites with grand views over Great Pulteney Street, or cosy loft rooms which feature hand painted murals celebrating the city.

Ice skating
Bath’s Victoria Park plays host to Bath on Ice every year, a temporary ice rink that pops up from mid-November until January.  Ice skating is a perfect activity to help you get some fresh air if the colder months have left you feeling stuck indoors, and is fun for families of all ages as there is no minimum age limit.

Thermae Spa
No visit to Bath would be complete without a visit to the Thermae Bath Spa, where you can bathe in the same naturally warm waters as the Romans did over 2000 years ago. Enjoy the scented steam rooms before you relax into the welcoming baths of local mineral-rich waters, and contemplate which of the luxurious spa treatments you could treat yourself to. A particular highlight is the open-air rooftop pool with spectacular views over the city.
